Barring any last minute ditch efforts by the Browns front office to trade away the number one overall pick in this years draft in hopes of securing back-to-back 1 win seasons, Cleveland seems poised to select the unanimous top overall prospect: defensive end Myles Garrett. After a stellar collegiate career with the Aggies, Garrett absolutely blew the roof off Lucas Oil Stadium at the NFL combine last month during his workout. Garrett topped that off with an impressive pro day, and so now all he has to do is sit back and wait to hear the commissioner call his name on April 27th. The Browns have some pieces in place on the defensive line in former 2015 first round pick Danny Shelton at nose tackle and last years selections of defensive ends Emmanuel Ogbah and Carl Nassib in the second and third round respectively. However, the Brownies still lack a true stud pass rusher. In steps Myles Garrett. Whether Garrett is plugged in as an OLB or a DE in the Browns 3-4 alignment, his freakish athleticism resembles that of Houston’s 2014 first round pick Jadeveon Clowney, which should help him find success no matter where he lines up on the field.

The Browns possess an arsenal of draft picks over the next two drafts, including 2 first round picks in this years draft. It’s no secret the most glaring need on this roster over the past decade is still quarterback. The Browns went out and spent big money in free agency on the offensive line by adding center JC Tretter and guard Kevin Zeitler. Now it’s time to get a signal caller behind this group to push the ball down the field. This year’s quarterback class is not quite as strong as the years prior at the top of the draft so it’s too early to grab North Carolina’s Mitchell Trubisky or Clemson’s Deshaun Watson. Though the guy the Browns really want is Jimmy G. If Cleveland can’t somehow persuade the Patriots to give up quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with a sweet package of picks, look for them to make a move to get one of the top quarterback prospects in this years draft, potentially even with their second first round pick (number 12 overall).
