With the tenth pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select…

After the benching of Tyrod Taylor at the end of the 2016 season one would of thought the Bills could be in the market for a quarterback in free agency or the draft. After the Bills and Tyrod Taylor came to an agreement on a restructured contract though, it seems QB is no longer a top priority. Smart move by the Bills as the market for quarterback is ass and despite what some people believe, Taylor actually has had two decent seasons in Buffalo given he’s had barely any receiver help. The Bills could potentially draft a quarterback to compete with Taylor, but odds are they decide to do that in a later round and instead look to fill a more pressing need at pick number 10.

The question is do the Bills go best available player, (O.J. Howard anyone?) or do they address one of their glaring holes at wide receiver and cornerback. Lot of mocks have the Bills going with a receiver such as Mike Williams to complement Sammy Watkins. Williams is without a doubt the top receiver prospect in this draft but would Buffalo dare select another Clemson player after the injury setbacks they’ve already had in Watkins and last years first round pick Shaq Lawson. The Bills have drafted 6 Clemson players in the last 7 drafts, can you name the others? CJ Spiller was one, and where’s he at now? Just please stop already. Maybe they switch things up and go with Corey Davis out of Western Michigan instead, though Davis himself is coming off an injury. Looking at the Bills current depth chart their second receiver is free agent signee Corey Brown from the Panthers. Yikes. The Bills definitely need receiver help for Taylor but I recommend grabbing one in the second round or waiting to scoop up a veteran who gets cut elsewhere.

The other big hole the Bills now have is at cornerback, after former first round pick Stephon Gilmore got paid to join the division rival Patriots. Gilmore had a so-so year for the Bills in 2016 but without him they have next to nothing in the secondary. It blows my mind how analysts like Bucky Brooks and Mike Mayock have Alabama cornerback Marlon Humphrey as the second best rated corner in this deep draft class yet almost no one has him going in the first round of their mock drafts. In fact they have guys like Gareon Conley, Tre’Davious White and others going before him. Here’s a guy who had two solid years playing corner for the arguably the best defense in college football. Humphrey has his flaws like anyone else but Alabama has done nothing but deliver studs to the NFL year after year. It’s a deep corner class but they are going to come flying off the board quickly so Buffalo should grab theirs while they can.
