With the seventeenth pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select…

$23.94 million. That’s how much Kirk Cousins is expected to cash in next season after the Redskins applied the franchise tag on the quarterback for a second consecutive year. All that guap and he still doesn’t want to play in Washington, and who can blame him? Franchise me once shame on you. I get it, you make him go out there and prove he wasn’t just a one year wonder, but that’s exactly what he did, almost throwing for 5,000 yards in the process! He has without a doubt proven himself, now pay the man! Cousins is disgruntled and would rather be in the bay with Kyle Shanahan and company but it doesn’t look like he’ll get his wish. Meanwhile the ‘Skins just fired their GM Scot McCloughan for sipping on the booze too much. If the PR nightmare in Washington wasn’t bad enough, they lost their top 2 receivers in free agency and their defense still blows so where do they turn to in the draft?

Any level of the defense could use upgrading, but head coach Jay Gruden is probably tossing and turning at night trying to figure out how he’s going to get this offense going when his starting quarterback is throwing to another quarterback. Christian McCaffrey is shooting up everyone’s draft board and I can’t for the life of me figure out why everyones riding this kids dick so hard. That’s right I’m a McCaffrey hater. Everyone thinks this dude is going top 15 maybe even top 10 and you know what he probably will but I’m calling it now, he’ll be a bust. McCaffrey, the ‘Swiss Army Man.’ The dude can run and catch out of the backfield, he can line up in the slot and he can also return kicks. He quietly rushed for over 1,600 yards last season at Stanford after having over 3,500 purpose yards the year prior and is a former Heisman Trophy finalist. Theres not a whole lot of validity to me bad mouthing him but I’m sorry I just don’t think he can hold up. He lacks the size of an every-down running back as well as the speed and power to succeed at the NFL level. Best case scenario he is a Darren Sproles or Ty Montgomery. Montgomery did a helluva job for Green Bay and is also actually from Stanford so maybe I’m wrong. Both comparisons were 4th and 3rd round picks though. It’s going to take the right team’s scheme for McCaffrey such as the Saints, Packers, Patriots, Chiefs, Redskins or I hate to say it because I hope it doesn’t happen, Eagles. I think Jay Gruden believes he can get creative and move McCaffrey around to get the most out of him. Who knows maybe McCaffrey can provide the jolt this offense is going to need next year, I mean it’s not like the Redskins backfield is set with Fat Rob and Fumblin Matt Jones.
