With the first pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select…

40+ TD’s, over 4,000 yards passing, Heisman winner, former Oklahoma quarterback and first overall pick of the NFL Draft. Who am I? Whether you guessed Baker Mayfield or Kyler Murray, you’re right. Holy deja vu, Batman! One year removed from the Browns making Baker Mayfield the face of their franchise with the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, it seems the Arizona Cardinals, too, like to live dangerously.  Prior to the end of the season this would have seemed ludicrous, as the Cardinals just used a first round pick last year on former UCLA quarterback, Josh Rosen. However, with the hiring of new head coach Kliff Kingsbury, it looks like the writing is now on the wall for Rosen. Last fall Kingsbury, then coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, was quoted prior to facing Murray’s Oklahoma Sooners, saying, “Kyler is a freak….. I would take him with the first pick of the draft if I could.” Well lo and behold, guess who has the first pick of the draft…

Kingsbury not only recruited Murray in high school, but he runs an offensive system geared towards Murray’s strengths. The major concerns with Murray have been his commitment to football as well as his size. Believe it or not, Murray is bit of a baseball stud and was actually drafted ninth overall in the 2018 MLB Draft. Lucky for us he has decided not to play baseball, because, well, baseball sucks, and instead, he will be focusing on football, America’s new pastime. In regards to Murray’s size, he checked in at 5’10” and over 200 lbs at the NFL Combine so that settles any concerns there. Wait, does this remind us of any other quarterbacks currently in the league? How about 6x Pro Bowl and former Super Bowl champion, Russell Wilson. This fairy tale ending has to come to fruition, and sure enough we’ll find out if it does on April 25th.
