With the tenth pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select…
10. Denver Broncos: Drew Lock QB | Missouri
Quarterback alert!! Yes I am aware that Denver traded for Joe Flacco. Yes I am also aware that Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins is still on the board. The fact of the matter is, neither of those things matter. Sorry Mr. Elway but Joe Flacco is not “just entering his prime.” Flacco’s prime was the 2012 NFL playoffs and Super Bowl. A series of 4 games, that’s it. You are crazy if you think Flacco is going to do anything more than Case Keenum did a season ago. Lamar Jackson can’t even throw a pass more than 10 yards down the field and he was able to steal the Ravens starting quarterback gig out from under Flacco. John Elway loves Lock. You know it, I know it, even my girlfriend’s mom knows it. He’s got the size, he’s got the arm, and he’s got the experience, which brings me to my next point.
Lock was a four year starter at Missouri with 50 games played, over 1,000 passes thrown, 12,000 yards and nearly 100 touchdowns. Haskins, meanwhile, has one year as a starter under his belt. Yes he had a great year, throwing for nearly 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns, but again, his sample size is only one season. Sure, you can easily point to Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky and say well so did he, and he had a great year last year. I can’t argue with that, but I can look at the quarterbacks who went after Trubisky in that draft class (Patrick Mahomes & Deshaun Watson), both of whom had 3 collegiate seasons under their belt before declaring to go pro. Who would you rather have as your franchise quarterback, Trubisky or Mahomes/Watson? I’ll let you decide.
The buzz in this draft at the quarterback position after Kyler Murray is all around Drew Lock right now. If the Broncos aren’t careful, he might not even make it to pick #10. If Denver finally wants to find its franchise quarterback for the next decade, they may need to make a move to Lock down their guy. See what I did there?
