Where do I start with the Tennessee Titans. I guess it always starts at the quarterback position right? I’m gonna come right out and say it, Marcus Mariota is a bust. The dude has yet to play a full sixteen game season over the last four years because he can’t stay healthy. Even when he is on the field he’s ineffective. He hasn’t thrown for anywhere near 4,000 yards on a season and in three out of the last four seasons, he has thrown for less than 20 touchdowns! Please explain to me how this guy is being considered a franchise quarterback? Why the hell would Tennessee even think of offering him a deal after this season with what the going rate for quarterbacks is these days. I love the trade for Ryan Tannehill. Not that I think Tannehill is any good, but it provides depth and adds some competition to that quarterback room. I can’t wait to see Tannehill take the field once Mariota inevitably goes down again and shows Titans fans what average quarterback play looks like.

Despite this offense ranking sixth worst in the league a year ago, I’m not giving them an offensive player here at pick #19 either. Mariota doesn’t deserve it. Tennessee has gone offense in the first round in seven of the last eight drafts. Mariota was taken #2 overall in the 2015 NFL Draft and saw an offensive tackle (Jack Conklin) taken the following year (to add to what has been one of the best offensive lines on paper the last few seasons), followed by a number one wide receiver (Corey Davis) the year after that. This offseason, the Titans went out and signed former Buccaneer Adam Humphries and further beefed up that offensive line with guards Rodger Saffold and Kevin Pamphile. This is all in addition to getting stud tight end Delanie Walker back and after a break out year from running back Derrick Henry. So no, I’m not mocking wide receiver D.K. Metcalf or tight end Noah Fant here. Go win with what you have.

Head coach Mike Vrabel is a defensive guy and his squad had an impressive year posting top ten numbers. This defense did lose their top two edge rushers in the offseason though in Brian Orakpo (retirement) and Derrick Morgan (still a free agent). It’s easy to look at that position and want to add some depth. Florida States’ Brian Burns is still on the board and tempting here. However, they drafted Harold Landry in the second round a year ago and signed the ageless Cameron Wake this offseason, so they should be okay here for now. A name I’ve seen linked to Tennessee is defensive tackle Christian Wilkins who Vrabel personally worked out at Clemsons pro day. Wilkins character is off the charts and he’s a pretty damn good football player too. When I look at the defensive line, Jurrell Casey isn’t getting any younger and could use some help as those other guys (Daquan Jones and Austin Johnson) could be upgraded.
